| SEASON OUTLOOK |
The outlook is very high for the Wranglers this year. Coming off a disappointing ending to the 2008 season, the nine returning sophomores are now hungrier then ever. The last time the Wranglers returned this many athletes from a winning team was in 2005 when they finished 3rd in the nation. We are working for those same kinds of results this year. |
| |
| RETURNERS |
| Amanda Baldanado |
Righetti High School |
Santa Maria, California |
| “Baldy” is returning to the Wranglers after a very productive freshman campaign that saw here become the ultimate utility player. In starting 57 of 63 games she saw time at center-field, left-field, short-stop, and third base. She was second on the team in average (.368) and fourth in slugging (.517). We are looking forward to another great year as she comes in more mature and in very good shape physically. |
| |
| Alisha Carrasco |
Odessa Permian High School |
Odessa, Texas |
| “Skinny” returns following a freshman year that saw her lead the team in steals and finish just behind Araujo in runs scored. She became our starting 2nd basemen shortly after the start of the season and never let that position go. She was one of our best leaders on the field and will be called on to increase her role this year as both an on and off the field leader. Alisha is more mature and more determined then ever, coming off summer foot surgery. She thrives on the challenge of getting back to 100% and will be smiling all the while. |
| |
| Hannah Dodson |
Alpine High School |
Alpine, Texas |
| If it is possible to see an individual mature right before your eyes, we experienced that last year. Along with here best buddy Latara Shockley, we watched a tale of two seasons. Hannah would start off with the role of our number four pitcher, and by seasons end, she would be a very solid game two starter. She finished our conference schedule with a 9-1 record and a mental toughness that we are excited to see grow this year even more. |
| |
| Noel Garcia |
West Mesa High School |
Albuquerque, NM |
| Lil’ Noel has become one of the team’s favorite young ladies. She is very supportive, funny, a little dingy, but passionate. She had a bit of a slow start to the year but would finish the season as one of our most useful offensive weapons. As a left-handed hitter would watch her average climb over 100 points in the last two months of the season, ending with a .313 average. She is expected to move over to right field and compete with fellow dual-athlete Leighanna Kruger (cross-country) to replace Big Noelle Garcia who will be attending The University of Texas at Tyler. |
| |
| LeighAnna Krueger |
Seaman High School |
Topeka, Kansas |
| Kruger saw a freshman year that was tough, and full of transitions. As an insulin dependent diabetic, she would find that the first couple of months away from home would be tough on her health. Never one to take her self out of a drill or practice, regulation of her sugars seemed to be harder then expected. By the spring, however, she was balanced, prepared and ready to contribute. She is an incredibly positive spirit of encouragement for everyone and a young lady you know will be a success. We look for bigger contributions from her this year and are excited about the things to come. |
| |
| Dominique Salazar |
Smithson Valley High School |
San Antonio, Texas |
| Dom became a great late-summer pick up for us last year. She split time behind the plate with Amanda Tinkley and became the catcher for our game one starter. She ended the season hitting .312 while driving in 17 runs. Dominique proved to be a very clutch hitter for us and her leadership and direction with our staff this year will be vital to our success. |
| |
| LaTara Shockley |
Sandia High School |
Albuquerque, NM |
| LaTara Shockley became one of the biggest one day turn around stories in my coaching career. Oh, how she loved to play first base and hit right-handed. Oh, what a great leftfielder and left-handed slap hitter she has become. After finally growing comfortable in her new role, LT would flourish! She would end the season hitting .340 from the left side and stealing 17 bases for the Wranglers. The last month of the season would see her take over the lead-off spot, allowing us to move Carrasco to the 2-hole, a very speedy combination that paid off big for the Wranglers. With maturity, understanding, and a new passion for her new role, the sky truly is the limit for LT. Though a great team player, she is worth the price of admission alone. |
| |
| Louisa Stover |
Hanks High School |
El Paso, Texas |
| Stover became the Wranglers 4th consecutive All-American. She joined previous All-America’s Breanna Casaus, Kelly Ninemire, and Karina Cannon. She led the conference in home runs and was second in conference to our own Marissa Araujo in RBI. Though struggling with a shoulder injury throughout the season, she started 60 of 63 games and played in 62. She spent a majority of time playing 3rd base, where she will look to remain again this year. “Stove-head” as she has become known, has the potential to break the conference record for homeruns but her focus is on a trip to the national tournament. |
| |
| Amanda Tinkley |
Little Flower Academy |
Richmond, BC, Canada |
| Amanda returns from North of the border and is coming off a stellar year. She showed her focus in the class room by pulling off a 3.5 grade point average for the year while putting together an all-conference season. She will again split time with Dom behind the dish and will be expected to lead this team off the field again this year. |

| TRANSFERS |
| Angel Castro |
Haltom High School |
Haltom, Texas |
| Angel comes to us from Texas Wesleyan University. She was one of our top recruits in 2006 and we are very glad to have her at Odessa College. She will compete for the starting short-stop spot and has one of the strongest arms to come through the program. With great hands and feet to boot, she should help solidify the middle infield for the Wranglers this season. |
| |
| Norma Orellana |
Bishop Alameny |
Arleta, California |
| Norma comes to us from Dickenson State University in South Dakota. A California native, Norma made the decision to move to the warmer climate of Texas, and we couldn’t be more excited. Norma has the ability to play many positions but will see most of her time spent at 3rd base. She is also one of our brightest students and will be a veterinarian in the future. |
| |
| Sarah Martinez |
Sandia High School |
Albuquerque, NM |
| Sarah is a transfer from New Mexico State University where she red-shirted this past season. She is a middle infielder by trade and will compete for the short-stop position. Sarah has great hands and smarts for the game. She is one of the few left-handed hitters we have this year in the line-up, which will add to her value to the team. She nursed a knee injury all summer but is now close to 100%. She should be a solid player for us this season. |
| |
| FRESHMEN |
| Kristen Armstrong |
Argyle High School |
Argyle, Texas |
| Kristen is a speedy outfielder that can hit from both sides of the plate. Her versatility at the plate will allow us to use her in several different ways which will help us keep her speed in the line-up. She is also and experienced 2nd baseman and is athletic enough to play many positions. |
| |
| Khiana Carter |
Northside High School |
Ft. Worth, Texas |
| Khiana is fast, raw, and athletic. She will play in the outfield for us but if she develops as we are anticipating, she will be the biggest left-side threat since Breana Casaus of the 2007 squad who stole 84 bases and hit over .400. Though not as refined yet, she does have the potential to be one of the top base stealers in the country. Adding to the returning speed of Skinny and LT, and fellow freshman Whitney Kurht, the Wranglers will look to shatter the current stolen base record at Odessa College. |
| |
| Erin Gilliland |
Robert E. Lee High School |
Midland, Texas |
| Erin is a catcher from Midland Lee high school. Coming from a long tradition of winning, Erin also brings a young maturity to the team that could play an important role in competing for the catchers spot. She is a very good receiver and is developing into a strong, gap-to-gap hitter. Her knowledge of the game is growing daily and she is a very hard worker on and off the field. |
| |
| Whitney Kuhrt |
Robert E. Lee High School |
Midland, Texas |
| Whitney is another one of our steals from Midland Lee high school. Whitney is fast, experienced, and talented. She comes to the team with one of the strongest arms on the team, the fastest kid on the team, and experience as a slapper already. She is a remarkable young lady and will also be assisting us in the college ministry on campus. The sky is truly the limit for Whitney! |
| |
| Tela Lovingshimer |
Santa Fe High School |
Edmond, Oklahoma |
| From the plains of Oklahoma, Tela
brings a strong glove, powerful bat and knowledge
of the game to the Wranglers. She can play every
infield positions and play them well. Spotted at
the Oklahoma State University advanced skills camp,
Tela caught the eye of the Wranglers coaching staff
immediately. She brings an aggressive, no quit
attitude that won’t stop until the job is
done. She is tough as nails and loves to get dirty
and will be a positive asset to the Wranglers this
season. |
| |
| Katelyn Stanley |
North Mason High |
Tahuya, Washington |
| Katelyn arrives here all the way from Washington. She is a very solid pitcher and a very good 1st baseman. She picks up on new things very well and is fast becoming the most coachable kid on the field. With the help of pitching coach Brandie Chapman and one time All-American Kelly Ninemire, the Wranglers feel confident that Katelyn will be a very consistent and solid addition to the squad this season. |
