Alex Droogsma
Assistant Volleyball Coach

Alex Droogsma enters her 1st year as the assistant volleyball coach at Odessa College. Originally from Denver City, Texas, Droogsma was a 3 year varsity letter winner at Denver City High School, participating in the Texas State Tournament her Junior year, and making it to the Regional Finals her senior year. Droogsma started her collegiate playing career at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kansas. (Coach Rowland was the assistant coach at SCCC during Droogsma’s 2 year stint as a Lady Saint.) Droogsma brings a wealth of knowledge to the court, having been a starting setter and rightside hitter at SCCC during the 2006 and 2007 seasons.
Droogsma set a single season record with 1,751 assists in 2006 (currently ranked 1st in the all-time single-season assists record book!) She is also ranked 9th on that same list with 1,089 assists for the 2007 season. With these 2 individual records, she currently holds the all-time career assists record at Seward County Community College with 2,840 assists! Droogsma also made her mark defensively on the court - currently holding the number 9 spot on the career digs list, with 677. Droogsma earned 2nd team All-Conference and 2nd team All-Region honors both her freshman and sophomore years at SCCC. She also earned the Distinguished Academic All-American award her 2 years, maintaining a 4.0 GPA her entire academic career.
Droogsma retired early from collegiate volleyball, and transferred on to the University of Texas – Arlington where she focused on her early childhood teaching degree. Droogsma graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from UT- Arlington in may 2011. Droogsma is currently teaching pre-school (4 year olds) at St. John’s Episcopal School in Odessa. |
