Coach J.R. Torrez came to Odessa College five years ago to build a cross country squad for men and women.  Torrez has had several cross country runners continue their running career at four year universities such as Tarleton State, West Texas A&M and Texas Wesleyan.  The program has produced four Academic All-Americans to date.  Torrez grew up in Crane, TX.  Torrez attended Midland College before transferring to Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX, to play tennis.  Coach Torrez completed his undergraduate work at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
