College: Craig Ehlo started his college basketball career in West Texas at Odessa College. In his two years at Odessa College, Ehlo average 16.8 points per game, 4.9 assist per game, and 6.0 rebounds per game. After two seasons with the Wranglers, Craig went on to finish his college career with the Cougars of Washington State. In his two years at Washington State, Ehlo averaged 8.55 points per game, 3.2 assists per game, and 2.7 rebounds per game. In Craig’s senior year he led the Cougars to their last NCAA Tournament victory with 18 points in a win over Weber State. One of the greatest feats accomplished by Ehlo in college was done at Washington State, as he set a school record with 136 assists in Pac-10 play. A record that still stands today.

Pro career: Craig was selected by the Houston Rockets in the third round (48th overall pick) of the 1983 NBA Draft. Ehlo played for the Rockets for 3 seasons before being waived by the team. While he was with the Rockets, Craig averaged 2.6 points per game, .76 assists per game, and 1.1 rebounds per game. In his last year with the Rockets, Houston made it to the NBA Finals. After a stench with the Continental Basketball Association, Craig signed a 10-day contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers and did eventually sign on for the remainder of the season. Ehlo would spend the next seven years playing for Cleveland averaging nearly 10 points per game, 3.4 assists per game, and 4.3 rebounds per contest. He averaged double-figures in scoring in four seasons with the Cavaliers, including three seasons of double-figure scoring in the playoffs with the Cavs. After his 7th season with the Cavaliers, Ehlo became a free agent and signed on with the Atlanta Hawks. Craig played in Atlanta for 3 seasons and finally finishing out his 14-year career with the Seattle Supersonics. Ehlo ranks among the Cavaliers all-time leaders in several categories: he ranks fourth in both three-point field goals made and attempted (381, 1,001), third in steals (661), seventh in three-point percentage (.381), seventh in assists (1,803), seventh in games played (513), seventh in minutes played (14,701), and eighth in total rebounds (2,267).

Fun Facts: Craig’s real full name is Joel Craig Ehlo. In 11 of his 14 professional seasons, Craig was on a team that made the playoffs. Ehlo was known for his versatility and durability as he was able to play three different positions and play in more than 79 games in seven of his 14-year career. While playing in the NBA, Craig was very involved in many charities including the Children’s Miracle Network and the Special Olympics.
