Daniel Lopez Drafted by Orioles in 12th Round of 2025 MLB Draft
Freshman RHP Daniel Lopez was selected in the 12th Round of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft by the Baltimore Orioles on Monday, July 14th.
The El Paso native was the 364th overall pick in this years draft. Lopez posted a 6-2 record this past season with a 4.89 ERA and struck out 81 hitters in 49.2 innings pitched.
Lopez becomes the first Wrangler drafted directly from Odessa College since 2015 when C Owen Spiwak was taken in the 10th Round by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Since 2015, five Wranglers have been drafted after departing Odessa College for a four-year program.
In 2019 RHP Chandler Casey (Lubbock Christian Univ.) was selected by the Houston Astros.
In 2021, OF Kyler Castillo (Univ. of New Mexico) was taken by the Arizona Diamond Backs and RHP Matteo Bocchi (Univ. of Texas) signed with the Chicago Cubs.
Two more former Wranglers were drafted in 2022. INF Ivan Melendez (Univ. of Texas) was the 43rd overall pick (2nd Round) by the Arizona Diamondback and RHP Chandler Arnold (Dallas Baptist) was taken in the 13th round by the St. Louis Cardinals.
