The Wrangler Women's Basketball team opened their 2021-22 season with a victory over Monroe College 77-65 on Thursday night at the OC Sports Center.
Jin Jessie Dai lead all scoring with 21 points, shooting 8 of 18 from the field, including 5 of 12 from beyond the arc. Taya Davis picked up her first double-double of the year dishing out a game high 11 asists to go along with 10 points. Two other Wranglers scored in double figures, Marchelle Bowden had 13 points off the bench and Ornella Lala Niankan had 10.
Odessa opened the game in a flurry jumping out to a 21-6 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as they held the lead through the remainder of the game.
As impressive as the Wranglers were on offense, the defense lead the way most of the night forcing Monroe into 30 turnovers.
With the win, Franqua Bedell picked up his first victory as Head Coach of the Wrangler Women's Basketball Program.
Odessa will now have to shift foucs quickly as they take on Salt Lake Community College tomorrow at 12pm at the OC Sports Center.
